Nigerian students in Sudan have today cried out to the Nigeria government for evacuation as they are stranded amids deadly conflict in the country
The situation in Sudan has been tense and volatile in recent weeks as the country witnesses a deadly conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary.
Civilians have been caught in the crossfire, leading to thousands fleeing Khartoum in search of safety.
However, for many Nigerian students studying in Sudan, the situation has become unbearable as they are currently stranded in the country without any means of escaping the violence.
One such student, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “While other nations are evacuating their citizens, we are stranded.
We are scared for our lives and have no means of leaving the country. We have been left to fend for ourselves.”
The Nigerian government has been urged to step in and facilitate the evacuation of its citizens from Sudan.
However, this has been met with some resistance from the Sudanese government, who have accused foreign governments of interfering in their internal affairs.
Meanwhile, the United States and France have already begun evacuating their citizens from Sudan, leaving Nigerian students feeling neglected and abandoned.
The situation is even more precarious for those students whose parents are unable to afford the cost of a flight out of Sudan.
As the conflict in Sudan shows no signs of abating, the plight of Nigerian students caught in the middle of it all continues to worsen.
The Nigerian government must take swift action to ensure the safe evacuation of its citizens from Sudan.
Failure to do so will only lead to more tragic consequences.
