MayDay: Lecturers, Doctors, Others to Benefit From Pay Rise – FGN
Workers on CONMESS, CONHESS, CONTISS salary scales to get pay rise from 2023
The Federal Government of Nigeria has yesterday announced that it will increase the salaries of some categories of civil servants from January 2023.
The affected workers include lecturers, doctors and others who are on the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, and other similar salary scales.
The Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Chris Ngige, revealed this on Monday at the Eagle Square, Abuja, during the celebration of the 2023 International Workers’ Day.
He did not disclose the percentage of the pay rise, but said that the workers will also receive arrears of the increase from January 2023.
Ngige explained that the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission was working towards finalising the increase.
He also recalled that the Federal Government had recently introduced a 40 per cent peculiar allowance for core federal civil servants and other public servants on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure to cushion the effects of inflation and other costs of doing their work.
He said that this was a demonstration of the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and conditions of service without any industrial action, but as a result of social dialogue.
“However, other workers in the other different wage structures like CONHESS, CONMESS CONUAS, CONTISS that started their Collective Bargaining with their Employer even with Industrial action are wounding up their CBAs for the National Salaries Incomes and Wages to transmit same for final treatment as provisions were made in the 2023 Appropriations for them with effect from 1st January 2023.”
