Mob Sets Suspected Kidnappers Ablaze, Rescues Victim
An angry mob in Ogbunike community, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, lynched a man suspected of kidnapping a woman on Wednesday, May 3.
The police confirmed the incident to PRISTINEGIST and said they rescued the woman and arrested another suspect.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were part of a gang that robbed a house in Ogidi, a nearby community in Idemili North Local Government Area, and abducted the woman.
They were escaping with their victim in a yellow Mitsubishi L300 bus when they were intercepted by the residents of Ogbunike, who blocked the road and caught two of them. The rest of the gang members fled.
Ikenga said the police were alerted and rushed to the scene, but one of the suspects had already been burnt to death by the mob.
The other suspect was taken into custody and the bus was impounded.
The spokesperson said the woman was taken to the hospital for treatment and that the police were investigating the case.
Ikenga also quoted the state police commissioner, CP Echeng Echeng as urging people to desist from taking laws into their hands by resorting to jungle justice.
He said all suspects should be handed over to police for appropriate investigation.
