Dino Melaye Unveils Female Deputy Governorship Candidate
Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, announced Hon. Habeebat Deen as his running mate.
Melaye introduced the former lawmaker from Ankpa local government area of Kogi East senatorial zone to PDP leaders and supporters at a ceremony in Abuja on Friday.
The event took place at the home of Alh. Ibrahim Idris, a former governor of the State.
According to PRISTINEGIST, Melaye said he was making history by choosing a woman as his deputy, adding that he would always do things differently and innovatively.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Engr. Sam Ohuotu, the State PDP chairman; Brigadier General Tunde Ogbeha (rtd); Prince Olusola Akanmode; Dr. Tom Adaba, and Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Gen. Ogbeha commended Melaye for his swift and smooth selection of a deputy, saying that he had demonstrated his respect for gender equality.
He said: “This is a divine choice. He’s made a statement that goes beyond Kogi State because it will attract a lot of attention, enthusiasm and goodwill.”
Urging all the other aspirants who contested with Melaye for the PDP ticket to rally behind him for the victory.
However, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who ran for the 2023 Kogi Central senatorial seat on the PDP platform, said it was fair for Kogi West to produce the next governor of the State. She also lauded the gender balance of the PDP ticket.
She said that involving women in governance would make a big difference. Howbeit, vowed to galvanise the women of Kogi Central for the PDP victory in the November 11 governorship election.
Former Governor Ibrahim Idris spoke at the event and urged PDP members in the State to unite and work together.
He said that power belongs to God and He gives it to whoever He pleases. Adding that Dino Melaye was the PDP governorship candidate by divine arrangement. He also said that Melaye had shown his readiness for the job ahead.
“Dino has been saying things that indicate that he is serious about this. Also he has shown that he is prepared to do the work,” Idris said.
