The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has issued a list of requests, which the federal government says it would take into consideration which include minimum wage.
After a roughly three-hour meeting between the Federal administration and the TUC, the Federal Government’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, told reporters at the State House that the administration will also consider how realistic the proposals were.
In order to obtain a mutually agreeable solution, he stated that President Bola Tinubu will firstly establish a tripartite commission that will comprise states, organized labor, and the corporate sector.
He stated that the Federal Government (FG) representatives will meet with the President to finalize decisions on the requests, adding that there is no disagreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over their demand for a review of the minimum wage or a return to the status quo.
He continued by saying that even though the NLC was not present, the parties had agreed to meet again on Tuesday, 24 hours before the NLC was supposed to strike, and the FG was making an effort to contact them.
The TUC has continued to demand that the Federal Government reverse the fuel price while discussions are ongoing in the spirit of social dialogue.
President of the TUC, Festus Osifo, said the union is hopeful as the Federal Government promised to look into their demands, the top of which is a review of the current minimum wage among others.
