Why I used 10-year-old niece as drug courier – Lagos trader
A Lagos trader, Taye Abass, has been arrested by the police for allegedly using her 10-year-old niece as a courier for a banned substance called Colorado.
The woman, who resides in Oko Oba, admitted that she trafficked the drug from her home to her shop by hiding it in the girl’s underwear.
She said she was introduced to the drug business by someone who warned her of the police crackdown on the dealers.
She claimed that she resorted to the illicit trade due to poverty and that her accomplices had fled.
The girl, whose name was withheld, said she was brought to Lagos from Ilorin by Abass about two months ago.
She said Abass maltreated her and forced her to carry the drug on her body. She said she did not know who bought the drug from Abass.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the case was a result of the cooperation between the police and the public.
He said a concerned citizen brought the girl to the Pen Cinema Division after finding her wandering on the street.
He said the girl revealed that she ran away from home because of Abass’ abuse. Also, he said the drug was discovered in the girl’s panties when she was being bathed and clothed at the station.
He said AbasAbbas was arrested after a follow-up investigation at her home and shop. He said AbaAbbasnfessed to her crime and would be charged accordingly. Finally,he said the girl would be reunited with her family.
