The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, has commended Team Kwara for their impressive performance at the ongoing North Central Zonal Eliminations in Jos.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Prestinegist Media on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Mogaji expressed satisfaction with the athletes’ efforts across various sports, including cricket, football, and volleyball. He urged them to remain focused and secure victories in their respective finals, emphasizing that their success would bring joy to Kwara’s sports-loving governor, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and reaffirm the state’s readiness for the upcoming National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

In football, Kwara edged out Nasarawa in a tense penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, with Sunday Owoeye from Oka Sports Football Academy scoring a stunning free kick for Kwara. The team triumphed 5-4 on penalties to advance to the final against FCT Abuja at 11:00 AM tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Kwara’s volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over Niger State to set up a final clash against Plateau State tomorrow. The state’s cricket team gained automatic qualification as other teams failed to show up for the competition.

The Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Oladele Bako, praised the athletes’ performances but maintained that the journey was not over yet. “Winning tomorrow’s finals will determine how prepared we are for the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta,” he remarked.

Football coach Ezekiel expressed his disappointment over the team’s struggle to secure a victory in regulation time but assured that they would step up their game against Abuja. Similarly, Coach Alamoyo appreciated the Kwara State Sports Commission for the opportunity, promising to return home as the top-performing team in the zonal elimination.
