
Oyelola Oyewale, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, has been elected as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti Chapter.
In a keenly contested election held on Tuesday at the institution’s conference hall, Oyelola polled 194 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr. Adelana of the Urban and Regional Planning Department.
A seasoned media expert, Oyelola, in his manifesto, pledged to launch the ASUP-FPA Quarterly Bulletin and ensure that the chapter’s activities receive deserving media attention.
Beyond academics, Oyelola is actively involved in the Nigerian media landscape. He currently serves as the Vice President (Administration and Communications) of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) and as the Secretary of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP).
Oyelola, who joined Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti in 2019, holds a Master’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication, alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies. He brings to the role over 16 years of post-graduation experience.
His emergence as ASUP PRO has been widely welcomed by colleagues who expressed optimism that his professional expertise will further strengthen the image and visibility of the union.
