The recent ridicule directed at Kwara United’s media setup during a post-match briefing may have raised laughter in some quarters, but in truth, it reflects a much deeper problem. What we witnessed is not so much a failure of competence as it is a failure of support.
The Kwara United media team, like many others in Nigerian football, operates under serious constraints. Without modern equipment, proper facilities, or the necessary tools to execute their tasks, even the most talented professionals will struggle to meet the standards expected in today’s digital era. Rather than mock them, the club management should take responsibility by investing in a proper media structure that matches the ambitions of a professional football team.
Equally important is the role of stakeholders in supporting the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara Chapter.
Journalists are partners in sports development; they amplify our stories, highlight our talents, and hold institutions accountable. Yet, they too often work under less-than-ideal conditions. Providing them with training, access, and encouragement will only enhance the quality of reportage around Kwara sports.
The lesson here is simple: excellence cannot thrive without investment. If Kwara United and other stakeholders commit to strengthening their media arms while also empowering SWAN Kwara Chapter, the state’s sporting image will rise significantly.
Ridicule may trend for a day, but genuine support will leave a lasting legacy.
