Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Rescue Kidnapped Victims, Sustain Offensive Against Bandits in Kwara

Troops of 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued two kidnapped victims from Efagi village in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a swift response to a kidnap incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025.

According to a statement by Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, the troops deployed at the Lafiagi Patrol Base received a distress call about the abduction and immediately mobilized to the area in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group.

During the operation, the troops engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel, forcing the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into nearby bushes. The victims were successfully rescued and later reunited with their families.

However, one soldier and a vigilante member sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter. They were promptly evacuated for medical treatment and are responding positively to care.

The Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, describing their swift response as a reflection of the Army’s determination to rid Kwara State and its adjoining areas of criminal elements.

He further reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against kidnappers and bandits in the region. Brigadier General Barkins also called on residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence to enhance the effectiveness of ongoing operations.

The rescue operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s renewed efforts to intensify the fight against insecurity in Kwara State and its neighboring states under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
