Residents of Otte, Budo-Egba, and neighboring communities in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State have expressed excitement and gratitude as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commissioned the newly rehabilitated Otte/Budo-Egba Waterworks on Monday, 13th of October 2025.
The Governor said the project — which includes a 500,000-litre capacity water tank — is part of his administration’s ongoing effort to modernize water infrastructure and ensure equitable access to clean and safe water across the state.
“This is not just about giving clean water to our people. The project brings comfort and renewed confidence in the power of our government to deliver,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated at the inauguration ceremony in Otte town.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing sustainable water supply as a core component of public health and community development.
“As an administration, we recognised that access to safe and reliable water supply must be a priority. That is why we launched a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and modernise water infrastructure across the state. The story of Otte and its environs today is a reflection of that vision,” he added.
AbdulRazaq further noted that access to clean water reduces waterborne diseases, improves education outcomes, and enhances the general well-being of citizens. He commended the contractors for their professionalism and the host communities for their patience and cooperation during the project execution.
The Governor also mentioned other ongoing rehabilitation projects at Omu-Aran, Oyun, and Sobi Waterworks, emphasizing that “access to clean water is a fundamental right of every Kwaran.”
Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including the Chairman of the Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources, Hon. Yunus Oniboki; Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade; Chairman of Asa LGA, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Amasa; Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji; Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa; and SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, among others.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Oniboki described the project as a “timely and life-changing intervention,” applauding the Governor’s commitment to ending water scarcity in rural areas.
Commissioner Lade urged residents to take ownership of the facility and guard it against vandalism, stressing that the government has invested heavily to improve water accessibility and sanitation across the state.
Chairman of Asa LGA, Alhaji Amasa, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor, describing the project as a “gigantic relief” to residents who had suffered prolonged hardship searching for water, especially during dry seasons.
In their goodwill messages, Prof. Adaramaja and Alakawa commended the Governor’s developmental strides across all local governments, assuring the administration of continued support from the people of Asa.
Adaramaja also recalled the community’s struggles with water scarcity under previous administrations, adding that the new waterworks will significantly transform lives in the area. He appealed to the government to further revitalize the Otte market and other infrastructure within the local government.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of hope and gratitude among residents, who described the project as another milestone in the AbdulRazaq administration’s drive to improve the quality of life for rural dwellers.
