KPMO Warns Nupeko TV Lafiagi Against Media Blackmail, Urges Respect for Ongoing Court Case

The Kwara Progressive Media Organization (KPMO) has cautioned Nupeko TV Lafiagi, a local online media platform, against engaging in what it described as media blackmail and character assassination amid an ongoing legal dispute between the outlet and the Kwara State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade.

In a press statement made available to Pristinegist Media, the group expressed concern over what it termed unguarded and defamatory publications by the media outfit, warning that such actions could amount to contempt of court.

KPMO noted that the Honourable Commissioner had already approached the appropriate legal channels to seek redress over false allegations of diversion of public funds leveled against him. It is described as disturbing and improper that the continued use of social media by the defendants to “incite the public, distort facts, and malign the image of a serving public officer” while the case remains before the court.

“If Nupeko TV Lafiagi indeed possesses any credible evidence to substantiate its claims, the responsible approach is to present such evidence before a competent court of law, not to engage in reckless propaganda aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the judicial process,” the statement read in part.

The organization, known for its advocacy of truth, accountability, and ethical journalism, urged Nupeko TV Lafiagi to desist forthwith from its campaign of calumny and allow the court to carry out its constitutional duties without interference.

KPMO also reminded media practitioners across Kwara State that freedom of expression does not translate to freedom to defame or libel others, stressing that the law is “clear and unforgiving in matters relating to false publication and character assassination.”

Expressing confidence in the integrity of the Commissioner, the group described Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade is “a young and dedicated public servant who has demonstrated transparency, accountability, and excellence in his service to the people of Kwara State.”

The statement concluded with optimism that justice will take its full course in the matter currently before the court.
