The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, on Thursday met with transporters and artisans across the state, describing them as critical stakeholders whose contributions remain vital to the growth and development of Kwara State.
Speaking during the engagement, Danladi-Salihu said the visit was not a campaign activity but an opportunity to appreciate the transport and artisan communities for their unwavering support and contributions to the state’s economy.
According to him, transporters and artisans play indispensable roles in moving farm produce, facilitating commerce, and sustaining economic activities across the state, thereby complementing the development agenda of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He noted that the administration remains attentive to the needs and aspirations of the people, citing ongoing road projects, social intervention programmes, palliatives, and other infrastructural developments as evidence of government’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens.
The APC governorship candidate urged members of the various associations to continue supporting the government and to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that every vote would count in the 2027 general elections.
The visit received positive reactions from leaders of the transport and artisan groups, who commended the AbdulRazaq administration for its people-oriented programmes, particularly the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) and other interventions aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on residents.
Among those who spoke were the Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji AbdulRahman Olayinka Onikijipa; Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Abdulrasak Ariwoola; Chairman of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Alhaji Saliu Gidado; and President of the Artisan Congress, Alhaji Jimoh Ayinla Adeshina. They expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts and pledged their support for Danladi-Salihu’s gubernatorial aspiration.
The Speaker was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola Oyebode; House Leader, Hon. Abdulkadir Oba Magaji; Hon. Muhammad Baba Salihu; Hon. A.G.F. Salau; former Adviser on Social Investment, Hon. Saddiq Buhari; Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, Hon.
