The Kwara State House of Assembly has marked the third anniversary of the 10th Legislature, highlighting its legislative achievements and reaffirming its commitment to people-oriented governance, accountability, and security.
Speaking during an anniversary session in Ilorin on Tuesday, Speaker of the House and APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, said the Assembly has remained steadfast in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities since its inauguration three years ago.
According to the Speaker, the legislature has passed 23 bills and considered 88 motions, including the recently approved Power Sector Bill aimed at advancing development in the state.
He noted that the Assembly’s legislative activities have impacted key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, social welfare, and economic growth.
Danladi-Salihu also emphasized the House’s oversight role, stating that lawmakers have maintained a robust framework for monitoring government programmes and budget implementation to ensure transparency and prudent use of public resources.
On security, the Speaker said the Assembly has adopted several resolutions to address challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across the state. He extended condolences to families affected by insecurity in Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, Baruten, Ekiti, Isin, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas.
He expressed confidence in ongoing efforts by the state and federal governments, security agencies, and local communities to restore peace and strengthen security in affected areas.
The Speaker further commended the cordial relationship between the legislative and executive arms of government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, describing the “O-to-ge” movement as a governance philosophy focused on delivering quality leadership and development to the people of Kwara State.
Danladi-Salihu also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq for supporting the emergence of a governorship candidate from Kwara North Senatorial District, describing the development as a demonstration of equity, justice, and inclusiveness.
As the Assembly enters the final year of its tenure, he pledged that lawmakers would continue to prioritize effective oversight, accountability, and policies that improve the welfare and quality of life of Kwarans.
The Speaker also appreciated the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), traditional and religious leaders, media practitioners, stakeholders, and residents of the state for their support to the legislature over the past three years.
