Residents of Ilorin Central have welcomed another major intervention in public lighting as the House Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Oba Magaji Abdulkadir (BOMA), has commenced the sixth phase of his “Light Up the Darkness in Ilorin Central” initiative.
The latest phase of the project covers Magaji Ngeri, Baboko, Badari, Oko-Erin and Warah Osin Egbejila wards, with the installation of solar-powered streetlights already underway in identified dark spots, markets and connecting roads across the communities.
The initiative, which is aimed at improving visibility and public safety at night, is also expected to support economic activities by creating a more conducive environment for traders, artisans, commuters and other residents.
Speaking on the project, Hon. BOMA said the intervention was conceived to address the security challenges associated with poorly lit areas while contributing to the economic vibrancy of Ilorin Central.
According to him, adequate street lighting is not only about illumination but also about creating safer communities where residents can move freely and businesses can operate with greater confidence.
He said the initiative is in line with the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration to promote a safer, more prosperous and economically vibrant Kwara State.
The House Leader explained that the latest phase would further extend the impact of the project to communities that still have significant dark spots, particularly around markets, residential areas and link roads.
Residents across the benefiting communities have expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the project as timely and capable of addressing some of the challenges associated with darkness in their neighbourhoods.
They noted that the solar streetlights would improve visibility, enhance security and encourage commercial activities, particularly during the evening hours.
With the commencement of the sixth phase, the “Light Up the Darkness in Ilorin Central” initiative continues to expand its reach, bringing more streets, communities and commercial areas under improved night-time lighting.
For residents of Ilorin Central, the message is becoming clearer: the heart of Ilorin is getting brighter, safer and more economically active.
