Kwara Boxers Shine at WBC-ABU Amateur Boxing Championship

Lagos, Nigeria – Two Kwara state boxers, Saheed Jamiu and Abdulsalam Alata, have made their state proud by winning medals at the just-concluded WBC-ABU Amateur Boxing Championship held at the Molade Okoya Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Saheed Jamiu emerged victorious in the 81kg category, defeating Akonmany Clement of Togo to claim the gold medal. This impressive win not only earned him a medal but also secured his spot to represent Nigeria and Africa at the World Boxing Championship in Mexico City later this year, where he will compete for the coveted golden belt.

Meanwhile, Abdulsalam Alata won a bronze medal in the 69kg category, despite suffering an injury that forced him to withdraw from the semi-final match against his Togolese opponent, Yousof Andelek. Alata will now have to participate in another qualifier with other Nigerian boxers to further his ambitions.

The manager of the boxers, Odelana Olaoluwa Peter, who attended the event, expressed delight at the breakthrough achieved by both boxers, stating that they were overjoyed with their success.

This achievement is a testament to the talent and dedication of Kwara state boxers, and it is hoped that their success will inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
