It was a moment of pride for Team Kwara at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba 2025 as young Karate sensation, Awe David, clinched a silver medal after an intense series of fights in the Karate event.
David’s impressive run, marked by resilience and determination, earned Kwara State its first medal of the Games, setting the tone for what promises to be a memorable outing for the Harmony Boys and Girls.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, Mr. Femi Robert, a former Nigerian international handball player and sports philanthropist, presented Awe David with a cash prize shortly after the medal ceremony. Robert praised the young athlete for his courage and fighting spirit, noting that such achievements at grassroots competitions serve as the foundation for producing future national and international champions.
“This medal is not just for David; it is for Kwara State. We must continue to encourage young athletes because they are the future of Nigerian sports,”Robert said.
Officials of the Kwara State Sports Commission who witnessed the historic moment expressed delight at the breakthrough, describing it as a morale booster for other athletes from the state competing in various events.

With this silver medal, Awe David has written his name in the history of Kwara’s participation at the NYG, inspiring teammates to aim for the podium as the Games continue in Asaba.
