The 8th Kwara Open Golf Tournament officially teed off today, September 6, 2025, at the Admiral Mohammed Lawal Ilorin Golf Club with a colourful opening ceremony.
The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, was ably represented by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, who performed the ceremonial tee-off to signal the commencement of the prestigious tournament.
Speaking at the event, the Captain of the Ilorin Golf Club, Mr. Jide Allen, lauded Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support and sustained investment in sports development, which he described as a driving force behind Kwara’s growing recognition in national and international sports.
Allen further applauded the leadership of Coach Bolakale Mogaji, noting that his progressive approach has given Kwara sports a new and enviable image.
“When you have the round peg in the round hole, the result will always be positive. Bola Mogaji is a progressive,” he remarked.

Also speaking, Engineer Olanrewaju Shagaya commended the Governor for his continuous investment in the state’s sports sector. He described Coach Mogaji as a true sportsman whose passion and commitment explain the remarkable progress being recorded across sporting activities in Kwara.
“Bola Mogaji is my brother, so I’m not surprised about the transformation we are witnessing in Kwara sports. He is a strong sportsman,” Shagaya said, before presenting Mogaji with a set of golf kits and formally inviting him to join the golfing family.

The 8th Kwara Open Golf Tournament is expected to attract top golfers from across the country and beyond, further strengthening Ilorin’s reputation as a growing hub for sports excellence.
