The Kwara State Sports Commission has announced the dissolution of all sports associations in the state with immediate effect.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Commission’s Press Secretary, Saheed Abdullahi, in Ilorin today 25th of September 2025.
According to the statement, the decision followed deliberations at the Commission Board’s sitting held on September 12, 2025, where members unanimously resolved to restructure the associations.
The Commission explained that the dissolution was necessary to inject fresh energy, bring in more committed and passionate individuals, and retain only the most active members in order to strengthen efficiency, transparency, and accountability in sports administration.
As part of the process, the Commission directed all affected chairmen, secretaries, and members to hand over documents, records, and materials belonging to their respective associations to the Commission secretariat without delay.
The Sports Commission, led by its Executive Chairman, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji, thanked all former association members for their service and contributions to sports development in Kwara State.
It also assured stakeholders that the reconstitution process would be inclusive and geared toward building stronger associations that will align with the state’s sports development agenda.
Sports associations in Kwara State serve as the administrative backbone for various sporting disciplines such as football, athletics, boxing, basketball, volleyball, squash, badminton, and several others. They are responsible for organizing competitions, talent scouting, and grassroots development.
The dissolution, observers say, may affect ongoing preparations for upcoming state and national competitions but could also create an opportunity for new leadership, fresh ideas, and broader participation.
The Commission further appealed to all stakeholders to remain calm and supportive, promising that the reconstitution of the associations will soon commence to ensure continuity in the state’s sporting activities.
