Kwara State cycling coach, Lukman Olawale Lawal, has been selected by the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) to represent the country at two major international events — the CAC Road African Cycling Championships in Kenya and the International Tour of Ghana, both scheduled to hold between 13th and 23rd November 2025.
Coach Lukman, one of Nigeria’s most respected cycling coaches, will join two top cyclists, Falilat Abdurasq Omotayo and Asiribo Olalekan, as part of Team Nigeria’s delegation to the prestigious competitions.
Reacting to his selection, Coach Lukman expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his visionary leadership and consistent support for sports development across the state.
He also commended the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for his steadfast encouragement and hands-on leadership that continue to inspire athletes and coaches to strive for excellence.
“I am deeply grateful to His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his unrelenting commitment to sports in Kwara State and for providing the platform that enables us to compete confidently on the world stage,” Coach Lukman said.
“I also sincerely appreciate Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, for his tireless efforts, motivation, and guidance. His leadership has been instrumental in the growth of cycling and many other sports in Kwara State.”
In addition, Coach Lukman extended his appreciation to the Cycling Federation of Nigeria for the trust and opportunity to serve the nation, as well as to the National Sports Commission for its support toward the success of Nigerian athletes on the global stage.
He equally lauded the entire sports family in Kwara State and across Nigeria for their continued encouragement, collaboration, and collective dedication to the advancement of sports in the country.
“I want to thank the Cycling Federation of Nigeria for the opportunity to contribute to national success, and the National Sports Commission for its support to all sporting disciplines. My appreciation also goes to the entire sports family in Kwara and Nigeria — their encouragement keeps us going,” he added.
The Cycling Federation of Nigeria, in a formal letter to the Kwara State Sports Commission, requested the release of Coach Lukman Lawal and the two cyclists to enable them to proudly represent Nigeria at the upcoming international events.
Coach Lukman’s selection once again highlights Kwara’s consistent contribution to Nigeria’s sporting excellence and reflects the success of the state government’s commitment to grassroots and elite sports development under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.
