AbdulRazaq’s Sports Drive Pays Off as Kwara Para Athletes Present Medals
Kwara State para athletes who distinguished themselves at the maiden edition of the West Africa Para Games paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, on Monday, 15 December 2025, where they formally presented the medals won at the championship.
The athletes were received at the Chairman’s temporary office inside the George Agbazika Innih Stadium, Ilorin, in a moment that celebrated courage, resilience, and excellence in disability sports.
Leading the delegation was Sharafadeen Lekan, a member of the gold-winning Amputee Football team, who spoke on behalf of the athletes and expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Government and the Sports Commission for their continuous support.
The Kwara contingent returned with an impressive medal haul across different sports:
Halimat Lawal – Para Shooting: 1 Gold Medal
Aishat Yahaya – Wheelchair Basketball: 2 Gold Medals
Ayuba Yahaya – Para Badminton: 2 Silver Medals
Sharafadeen Lekan – Amputee Football: 1 Gold Medal
The medals were officially presented to Mallam Mogaji as a symbol of appreciation and accountability, acknowledging the institutional support that made their success possible.
Mogaji Commends Athletes, Reaffirms Government Commitment, In his response, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji congratulated the athletes for making Kwara State proud on the regional stage, describing their performance as a clear testament to discipline, hard work, and belief.
He reaffirmed that the achievements align with the sports development vision of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, whose administration has continued to prioritize inclusiveness, youth development, and opportunities for persons with special needs.
“These medals are not just victories for the athletes, but for Kwara State as a whole. They reflect the governor’s deliberate investment in sports and disability inclusion. Your success encourages us to do even more,” Mogaji said.
The Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Haruna Tsado, and the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Oladele Bako, were also in attendance, where they congratulated the athletes on their outstanding performance and urged them to remain focused, committed, and not to relent in their pursuit of excellence.
The visit further underscored Kwara State’s growing reputation as a hub for para sports development, with structured support, exposure, and motivation for athletes living with disabilities.
The athletes, in turn, pledged to remain focused and committed as they prepare for future national and international competitions, promising to continue flying the Kwara flag with pride.
The 1st West Africa Para Games, held from 25 November to 3 December 2025, brought together para athletes from across the sub-region and marked a significant milestone in the growth of adaptive sports in West Africa. Kwara State’s outstanding showing has since been widely celebrated within the state’s sports community.
