Pushes Through Illness to Train
Young Nigerian cycling sensation Falilat AbdulRasaq has demonstrated remarkable determination and discipline, returning to training despite recently battling illness, and declaring that her focus on upcoming competitions would not allow her to slow down.
The National Youth Games gold medalist made this known on Monday after completing a personal training session at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium, where she continues preparations for forthcoming competitions.
Speaking with a reporter from Prestinegist Media, Falilat revealed that, although she had not been feeling well before the training session, her determination to succeed pushed her back onto the track.
Responding to a question on what motivated her to train despite the health challenge, the young cyclist said the desire to win upcoming competitions remains her biggest motivation.
“I have competitions ahead and I must win. Without proper training and serious preparation, it will be difficult to achieve my goals,” she said.
Falilat AbdulRazaq is widely regarded as one of the promising young athletes emerging from Kwara State’s sports development structure. Her impressive performances at the National Youth Games earned her a gold medal and recognition among Nigeria’s rising cycling talents.
Her growth and continued success are also attributed to the improved support system for athletes in the state through the Kwara State Sports Commission under the leadership of Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, whose administration has focused on nurturing young talents and providing opportunities for athletes to thrive.
Sports stakeholders have noted that the renewed investment and encouragement from the Kwara State Government, led by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, continue to inspire young athletes like Falilat to remain dedicated and committed to achieving excellence.
Beyond her success at the youth level, Falilat has also had the honour of representing Nigeria in cycling competitions, a feat that highlights her rapid development and the growing reputation of Kwara State as a breeding ground for talented athletes.
Despite the brief health setback, Falilat’s return to training reflects her resilience and determination to remain at the top of her game. With her strong mentality and winning mindset, many believe the young cyclist is on course to achieve even greater milestones for both Kwara State and Nigeria in the near future.
