AA Veteran Unity Cup: Gov. AbdulRazaq, Mogaji’s Investment in Grassroots and Veterans Football Pays Off as Tournament Begins in Grand Style

The commitment of the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to sports development and the unwavering support of the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, came to the fore on Saturday as the maiden edition of the AA Veteran Unity Cup got underway at the KFA Pitch, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
Sponsored by Governor AbdulRazaq and hosted by the President of the Kwara State All Stars Football Family, Alhaji Idrees Hameed (SMO), the competition provided another platform for former football stars to reconnect, promote healthy living, and strengthen unity within the football community.
The opening day produced exciting football, with Afase Allstars defeating Ramsaky Allstars, inspired by a brilliant brace from former Kwara United and Sand Eagles midfielder Isiaka Olawale. His outstanding performance highlighted the quality and experience that the tournament seeks to celebrate.
In the second match, Fullmoon Allstars also made a winning start with a deserved victory over MD Allstars. Goals from Lateef Adigun and Taiye Emun secured all three points after an energetic display.
The successful commencement of the competition further reflects Governor AbdulRazaq’s continuous investment in sports as a tool for youth development, social cohesion, and community engagement. His administration has consistently supported initiatives that promote sports across different age groups, from grassroots competitions to veterans’ events.
Similarly, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji has continued to champion programmes that keep retired athletes actively involved in sports while creating opportunities for interaction between past and present generations of footballers. Under his leadership, the Kwara State Sports Commission has maintained its commitment to supporting initiatives that preserve the state’s rich sporting heritage.
Speaking on the significance of the tournament, stakeholders commended Governor AbdulRazaq for extending his support beyond elite competitions to veterans’ football, describing the AA Veteran Unity Cup as a worthy initiative that promotes fitness, friendship, and unity among former players.
Attention now shifts to the second round of fixtures scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the KFA Pitch, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin. Ramsaky Allstars will be seeking their first points against MD Allstars, while opening-day winners Afase Allstars and Fullmoon Allstars will clash in what promises to be the headline fixture of the weekend.
The AA Veteran Unity Cup is expected to continue strengthening camaraderie among football veterans while reinforcing Kwara State’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading hubs for sports development under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the stewardship of Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji.
