The Local Organising Committee of the 4th MoniMak Softball Championship 2026 has commended the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for their unwavering commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in the state.

The championship, organised and sponsored by the MoniMak Foundation, owned by Mrs. Monisola Makanjuola, Permanent Member representing Kwara South at the Kwara State Sports Commission, officially commenced on July 26, 2026, at the Adewole Baseball Park, Ilorin, and will run until July 31, 2026.

Representing Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji at the opening ceremony, Alhaji Dele Abubakar Seleto declared the tournament open and performed the ceremonial first pitch.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Seleto lauded the organisers for providing a platform that has brought together teams from different states across Nigeria, describing the championship as a major boost to talent discovery and the development of softball and baseball in Kwara State and the country at large.

In appreciation, the championship committee applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his sustained investment in sports through improved infrastructure, athlete welfare, and the creation of an enabling environment for sporting activities to thrive in the state.

The committee also praised Coach Bola Mogaji for his leadership of the Kwara State Sports Commission and his consistent support for sporting programmes, particularly baseball and softball, noting that his administration has continued to encourage the growth of emerging sports in the state.

The opening ceremony attracted several sports administrators and dignitaries, including Hon. Abdullahi Yunusa Lade, Permanent Member representing Kwara North at the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mr. Haruna Tsado, Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Hamidu Olowo, Director of Sports, and other stakeholders.

Nine teams are competing in this year’s championship across three groups.

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group, alongside the two best third-placed teams, will qualify for the quarter-finals.
