The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission and Patron of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Kwara State Chapter, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, has charged young footballers to embrace discipline, obedience and education as they pursue their sporting careers.
Mogaji gave the advice while addressing young footballers at the George Agbazika Innih Ilorin Stadium during the screening exercise for the Commissioner of Police Cup, popularly known as the CP Cup, organised by YSFON under the leadership of Mr. Kiyesola.
Addressing the young players, Mogaji urged them to remain disciplined both on and off the pitch, stressing the importance of respecting and obeying their parents, teachers and coaches.
He also encouraged the players to combine their sporting talents with education, noting that while talent could open doors, education would help them maximise their potential and sustain their success.
According to him, “If you have sports talent, you are a star; if you are good in education, you are a super; but if you are good in the two, you will become a superstar.”
The Sports Commission Chairman further urged officials of YSFON to ensure equity, fairness and transparency throughout the screening and competition, from the beginning to the end.
Mogaji commended the organisers for their efforts in discovering and nurturing young football talents across the state, urging them to revive the glory and developmental spirit associated with YSFON in its earlier years.
He said such initiatives were important in producing the next generation of football stars who could emulate the achievements of Nigerian football icons such as Taiwo Awoniyi, Bukayo Saka and Halimatu Ayinde.
He assured that sustained commitment to grassroots sports development, coupled with discipline, education and fair opportunities, would help provide a strong pathway for young talents in Kwara State to progress to the highest levels of Nigerian and international sports.
