Kwara State has recorded another remarkable sporting achievement as Adekunle Gbotemi emerged winner of the Under-19 category at the International Women’s Day Badminton Championship 2026, claiming the coveted gold medal.
The championship, organized by The Blooming Her Foundation, took place from April 9 to April 11, 2026, at the National Stadium Package B Gymnasium Hall. The tournament featured top young talents and veterans in badminton, creating a platform to celebrate excellence and promote women’s participation in sports.
Gbotemi displayed outstanding skill, determination, and composure throughout the competition, defeating strong opponents to secure the top prize in the Under-19 category. Her victory earned her the gold medal position, alongside the prize reward designated for champions in the singles event.
The IWBC 2026 attracted participants from different regions, with categories including Veterans and Under-19, and matches played across scheduled sessions at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily. The tournament also offered attractive prizes for winners, with gold medalists in singles receiving ₦500,000.
