The Kwara State Basketball Championship continued excitingly on Thursday as secondary school teams displayed impressive talent and determination during the second round of matches at the Outdoor Basketball Court of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
The championship, organized by the Kwara State Basketball Association (KSBA), has attracted schools from across the state, with participating teams delivering entertaining performances filled with pace, discipline, teamwork, and technical quality.
Young players thrilled spectators with fast-break transitions, coordinated attacking moves, and solid defensive displays, further highlighting the steady growth of grassroots basketball development in Kwara State.
According to a statement released by the Press Secretary of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mustapha Taofiq Olayiwola, the competition has continued to reveal the enormous potential of young athletes in the state.
An official of the Kwara State Basketball Association, while speaking on the ongoing championship, commended the standard of play and the dedication shown by participating schools.
“What we are witnessing here is a clear indication that basketball is gaining stronger roots at the grassroots level. The students are showing great promise, and this championship is providing them with the platform to grow and excel,” the official said.
The championship is aimed not only at promoting healthy competition among students but also at identifying talented players capable of representing Kwara State and Nigeria in future competitions.
As the tournament advances toward its decisive stages, teams are expected to intensify their push for honours in what has become a highly competitive and entertaining championship.
The Kwara State Sports Commission under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, reiterated its commitment to youth development through sports, emphasizing the importance of structured sporting activities in nurturing the next generation of athletes.
