Kwara State swimming officials and athletes on Monday, September 14, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, at his office, where they presented the medals won at the recently concluded 2nd Swim to Future Championship in Abuja.
Team Kwara recorded an impressive eight-medal haul, comprising five gold, two silver and one bronze medal, in a performance that further underlined the growing potential of swimming in the state.
The outstanding Thaoban Jimoh Oladimeji led the medal charge, winning gold in the 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle events. He also claimed a silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke.
Eliot Ibukun Oluwamuyiwa added another gold medal in the 50m Backstroke, while also winning silver in the 50m Butterfly.
Completing Kwara’s medal tally, Oluwabunkunmi Lydia secured a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke.
The athletes and officials used the occasion to formally present their medals to the Sports Commission Chairman in appreciation of the support and encouragement provided to the state’s athletes.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Kwara State Swimming Association, Alhaji Owolabi Wopa Agbaji, commended Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to sports development in Kwara State, particularly the growth of swimming.
Wopa Agbaji said the support of the state government, alongside the availability of sporting facilities, has provided the athletes with the necessary encouragement and environment to improve their performances and compete successfully at national competitions.
He also praised the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for his continued support and fatherly role in the development of swimming and sports generally in the state.
The association expressed optimism that with sustained government support, improved facilities and regular exposure to competitive events, Kwara’s swimming athletes will continue to produce outstanding results and make the state proud at national and international competitions.
