The final of the Ramadan & Easter Seven-Aside Rugby Tournament was held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium, drawing an exciting crowd of sports enthusiasts and stakeholders.
The event, which celebrated unity and athleticism, featured a thrilling novelty match involving veteran male rugby players in Kwara State.
The encounter provided great entertainment for spectators and ended on a peaceful and commendable note, setting the tone for the highly anticipated final match that followed.
Speaking after the competition, Coach Suleiman Angulu lauded the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for his commitment to revitalizing sports development in the state. He noted that Mogaji’s leadership has continued to inspire growth across various sporting disciplines, including rugby.
In his address to players, coaches, and organizers, Mogaji—representing the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq—commended the participants for their dedication and passion. He encouraged the athletes to remain focused and hardworking, emphasizing that greater opportunities lie ahead if they maintain their current momentum.
“The sky should be your starting point,” Mogaji stated, assuring the players that their efforts would not go unnoticed and hinting that future sporting festivals could provide a bigger platform for their talents. He further emphasized that the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq, will continue to prioritize the development of sports and youth across the state as part of its broader commitment to empowerment and growth.
He also applauded the organizers and coaching crew for a successful tournament and advised that subsequent editions should include female participants to promote inclusivity and further develop the sport.
The event was graced by notable personalities, including the Administrator of the Kwara Football Academy, Mr. Tajudeen Obalola, alongside respected coaches such as Coach Baye Badmus, Coach Moro, Coach Akeem, and sports stakeholder Olaide Ahli, among others.
The tournament stands as another testament to the ongoing efforts to reposition Kwara State as a hub for sports excellence.
