The Kwara State Tennis Team has recorded an impressive medal haul at the 2026 SAPETRO Futures Tennis Championship in Lagos, winning gold, silver and bronze medals across the girls’ categories.
The championship saw young tennis players from across the country compete for honours, with the Kwara contingent demonstrating determination, discipline and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
In the Under-12 Girls category, Muhammed Amirah emerged champion to claim the Gold Medal, while her teammate, Bello Mariam, secured the Silver Medal.
In the Under-14 Girls category, Wuraola Khadijat added another medal to Kwara’s tally by winning the Bronze Medal.
Other players who represented Kwara State at the championship include Muhammed Jaimu Abdulakeem, Isamotu Khalid, Ahmed Abdulsamad and Lukman Hussein in the boys’ category.
The performances further underline the growing development of tennis in Kwara State, particularly the emergence of young talents capable of competing successfully at national-level championships.
Reacting to the achievement, the Kwara State Tennis Association commended the players for their commitment, discipline and excellent sportsmanship, while appreciating everyone who contributed to the team’s participation and success.
The Association, through its Secretary, Zubair Kuburat, also expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his administration’s investment in sports development and support for athletes across the state.
The Association further commended the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for what it described as his outstanding leadership and commitment to strengthening sports development and creating opportunities for young athletes in the state.
The latest achievement adds to the growing list of encouraging performances by Kwara athletes and reflects the importance of sustained investment in grassroots sports development.
